Love Your Summer Workout

As we say good-bye to swimwear and shorts — not to mention the warm weather that they accompany — I can’t seem to let go of the desire to exercise in the outdoors.  The added sunshine has definitely been one of my biggest motivators to keep working out. On the Friday before the long weekend, it suddenly dawned on me how lucky I was to take in the scene in front of me that evening: a clear pathway by the lake, free to jog, walk or bike on — a place too where I could go on losing myself and the pressures of the day, simply by being there.  In the space of an hour, it was very refreshing to have done so much good for my body and soul. Despite almost being trampled by a few raging cyclists, it was a soothing run for me.            ... MORE

The Slimy Ingredient

Forget about snails ridding your garden of dying plants and vegetables. And who even eats escargot anymore? These benefits of snails are a thing of the past. When you think of snails nowadays, contemplate the notion of them helping to get rid of the imperfections on your body. The question is: Who would even come up with something like that? Well, apparently someone has and it’s slowly becoming the next big thing in the beauty world. It may not sound appealing — at all, but to many people inflicted with damaged skin and scars, the results are very tempting. A 30 ml bottle of Snail Extract Serum claims to remove new and old stretch marks, reduce wrinkles, acne scars and scarring by renewing skin through exfoliation and elimination of dead cells. ... More To A Day Than The Game

I sat at the edge of my seat last night, utterly dumbfounded by what I had seen — as I’m sure many hockey fans had. Somehow the Canadians won. Somehow the Capitals choked. Somehow all those Capitals I picked in my hockey pool were eliminated. Somehow one of my least favourite NHL teams was the toast of the league. It’s still sinking in. Of course I’m functioning, but if I feel this stung about the loss it’s unimaginable how the Capitals themselves must feel. Except at least one of them is a shining example of unbelievable, kind-hearted inspiration. Brooks Laich, who scored Washington’s only goal in their incredibly disappointing Game 7 loss, pulled over on the drive home after the game to change a woman’s tire. After being at the game with her 14-year-old daughter, Mary Ann Wangemann hit a pothole and got a flat. They... MORE

Clearing the Air

There is nothing like stepping outside into the warm, fresh spring air. In fact, the idea of coming inside seems downright silly. Our homes, which were once our private sanctuaries against the bitter Canadian cold, have become stuffy boxes we can’t wait to leave in favour of long walks and picnics. Now that you’ve read through Lifestyle’s Spring Décor guide, featuring yellow as the “it” colour of the season, I have another suggestion: Bring the springtime inside with more than just décor by airing out your homes. During the winter months Canadians breathe the same recycled, filtered air. As the months progress this inevitably builds up with dust, animal hair, dirt — you name it, and it’s probably floating around. ... MORE
