Movies Vs. Books

Everyone has their funny little quirks. One of mine is reading a novel first, before it is adapted into a movie. Try as hard as the filmmaker may to bring a story to life up on that giant screen, I often find nothing compares to the retreats of one’s imagination while relaxing with a fine read. And so, I refrained from the recent Eat Pray Love phenomenon, promising myself to see the movie only after reading Gilbert’s memoirs. I’m glad to say that so far, I’ve kept my promise. It’s unfortunate that a lot of content often goes missing during the movie-making process, probably due to editing. But what I find even more comforting is the experience of holding the original story in my hands. If this sounds old-fashioned (no offense intended, iPad users), well, then I guess that... MORE

Gleeks are Gleeking Out for Glee

The wait is over! The highly anticipated show, Glee, is coming back this week. And when I say highly anticipated, I mean it.  Fans of the show, known as Gleeks, were extremely disappointed when the last episode aired on Dec. 9 and went on a four-month hiatus, teasing us these last few weeks with sneak peaks and promotional posters.   The show is about an optimistic teacher, Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), who, against all odds and an evil cheerleading coach (Jane Lynch),... Movie Review: Date Night

Oh, the lunacy! Shawn Levy, the director of the Night at the Museum franchise, teams up with two of the comedy world's biggest talents, Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin, The Office) and Tina Fey (Baby Mama, 30 Rock, SNL), for an adventure that turns one couple's idea of a fun night out into a night of mayhem and danger, in Date Night. Claire and Steve Foster (Fey and Carell) are a typical suburban couple from New Jersey. After receiving news that their seemingly happy friends from book club (Mark Ruffalo and Kristen Wiig) are getting divorced, they worry that all of their work, as well as the exhausting job of raising their two young children have made the marriage stale. In an attempt to re-ignite their marriage, the Fosters... MORE

See The April Blue Jays

There’s something about Toronto baseball in April that’s majestic. It might be because it’s usually the first time we’ve seen the sun in six months, or because our sports teams make us so sad that having a team whose hopes for the playoffs haven’t been ruined yet is exciting. Nonetheless, there’s something great about it — and the players feel it, too. The Blue Jays almost always have their best month in April. They play complete baseball with energized pitchers, and they’re usually competing for first place. Last year, the Jays were one of the best teams in baseball after April. Moreover, a Sports Illustrated players’ poll had them second behind Boston as a World Series favourite. Of course, we won’t focus on the... MORE
