Toronto’s CN Tower takes celebrations and holiday events to new heights

By Irene Knight | September 2, 2010

When Tennis Canada sought a venue that would put the world’s No. 1 tennis player Rafael Nadal “on top of the world” to conduct the Rogers Cup 2010 Official Draw — a venue atop the CN Tower provided a unique and memorable location.

National icon, world’s tallest tower, an architectural and engineering wonder — this popular event destination hosts more than 500 meetings and events each year from themed galas, receptions and parties for 20 to 2,000, and tops the list of venues for spectacular celebrations and holiday events.

“One of our most important selling features is the ability to combine spectacular unique settings not found anywhere in the world with award-winning cuisine and ambiance,” says Jack Robinson, chief operating officer for the CN Tower.

The CN Tower is a sought-after location for entertaining thanks in no small part to the quality of the culinary experience. The tower recently earned its 14th consecutive DiRoNA award (Distinguished Restaurants of North America) recognizing excellence in cuisine and service, as well as a Best of Award of Excellence (since 1999) from Wine Spectator magazine, putting the food and wine at the tower in a class with a select few.

The freshest seasonal ingredients are used to create a delicious variety of menus for served and themed events — with something to please every palate.  Guests are pleased to learn the signature Canadian cuisine at 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower features the finest regional ingredients, supports local producers and suppliers and, when the season is right, is supplemented by an extensive on-site organic herb garden. 360 Restaurant holds the Guinness World Record for World’s Highest Wine Cellar and this unique “cellar in the sky” enables the tower to complement any event experience with an incredible selection of more than 500 international wines.

With award-winning fine-dining and ambiance, 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower hosts lunches or elegant sunset soirées. With a sophisticated ambience, the restaurant can be booked exclusively for served functions up to 400 or receptions up to 600.

From bottom to top, the CN Tower offers a variety of unique event settings. In addition to meeting space at the base, the newly upgraded Maple Leaf Cinema is now one of the most technically advanced venues for public and private screenings or presentations. This state-of-the-art theatre is fully equipped with leading-edge, high-definition digital cinema technology projection and sound systems including the latest in high-definition 3D.  All meetings are supported by the CN Tower’s technical services team, which can accommodate a multitude of special needs.

Groups can meet at the bottom then be whisked more than a thousand feet skyward to the top aboard glass-fronted elevators for views overlooking the city like no other. Parties at the top, for 50 or up to 600, include cocktail receptions with awe-inspiring views stretching out to the horizon and beyond. The ultimate event can include pre- and post-dinner parties in Horizons Restaurant. Horizons can accommodate 300 or 150 seated, is easily divided for privacy, and a built-in stage and sound system support a variety of presentation and entertainment options.

Attention to every event detail is managed by a talented in-house sales and event planning team. This experienced group can offer creative ideas and suggest inspired suppliers to help design events that impress guests and leave them with lasting memories.

The CN Tower recently achieved BOMA BESt certification in recognition of the structure’s green initiatives in the areas of energy, water, waste reduction, indoor environment and environmental management systems.
With all it has to offer, it’s easy to see how the CN Tower puts celebrations and special events on top of the world. •
